The SF Sketchfest Dozen: The Next Wave of Stand-Up Comedy Stars
SF Sketchfest presents a pairing from a dozen hand-picked stand-up comedians on the rise: names you might not know now, but will be hearing a lot from soon.

Writer, actor, and standup comedian Joe DeRosa has become a favorite on the comedy circuit. His brand of comedy mixing brutal honesty and frustration at the workings of the world has won over comedy fans, radio listeners, and TV audiences nationwide. In February 2013 Joe taped his second half hour special for Comedy Central, and in September of that year released his third standup comedy album “You Will Die.” His first two standup albums, “The Depression Auction” and “Return of The Son of The Depression Auction,” were released on Comedy Central records in 2010 and 2011 respectively. A fourth album, “Mistakes Were Made: The B-Sides” was released in August of 2014. DeRosa was a writer on Netflix’s highly anticipated "Wet Hot American Summer" TV series. He also wrote and was a featured performer on TBS’ acclaimed "The Pete Holmes Show." Online, Joe created, wrote, and starred in Bedrocket’s 2013 web series "We Should Break Up" and the Warner Brothers web series "What Are We Waiting For?" In 2011 he directed and, along with fellow comedians Bill Burr and Robert Kelly, co-wrote and starred in the short film "CHEAT," which premiered at The Tribeca Film Festival that year. Simon and Schuster released a book based on the film, which was written by the three, in October 2012. In recent years, DeRosa has been seen in a recurring role on AMC’s "Better Call Saul," and has made appearances on Comedy Central’s "Inside Amy Schumer," FX’s "Louie," HBO’s "Bored To Death," E’s "Chelsea Lately," and in the video game Grand Theft Auto V. Joe headlines comedy clubs and colleges both in and out of the country and has been featured repeatedly at renowned festivals like South By Southwest, The Montreal Comedy Festival, JFL 42, The Moontower Comedy Festival, The New York Comedy Festival, Gilda’s Laughfest, and Bonnaroo.

In 2013 Joe made his television debut on "John Oliver’s New York Stand Up Show" on Comedy Central, and since then has appeared on "Conan," "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," Season 8 of NBC’s "Last Comic Standing," Nickelodeon, and recorded a Comedy Central Half Hour Special. He was also chosen as one of the New Faces at Just For Laughs Montreal, where he was positively reviewed by the The Spit Take and Time Out NY. In 2014, he recorded his debut album, "Smiling at Wolves" which reached #2 on iTunes, and Buzzfeed named him a “Comedian you should be paying attention to,” saying “The combination of Joe’s calming vocalization and inventive writing is a thing of magic.” Praised for an accessible style pairing absurdism with observational and autobiographical
material, Joe is an original member of the Beards of Comedy, who toured from 2008-2012 and released two albums — 2011’s "Cardio Mix" & 2009’s "Comedy For People." Based out of New York city, Joe is currently touring the country with his new hour. He hosts popular science podcast called "Universe City" which comes out every Tuesday, and a monthly show at Union Hall in Brooklyn called “Deeperness”. Joe grew up in Morgantown, WV and graduated from Davidson College in 2005. $20 All Ages
